Red, White & Green Entry Christmas Decor – Decorating the Entry for Holidays Idea

There are a few truths I — and now, by association, you — will need to accept as we move through this holiday season …

and New Year.

Or, more precisely, there are two truths.

Truth #1: There’s a 100% chance that I’ll be posting about Christmas decorations in my home up to — and beyond — Christmas day.

Because somehow it went from December 1 to December 18 in the span of three days.

Where did the time go?

Truth #2: When sharing the Christmas decorations in my home up to — and beyond — Christmas day, I’ll be waxing nostaligic.

Because, as I’ve shared in my Thanksgiving posts, this will be our last Christmas in this house. A house we’ve lived in since 1995(!).

And my first Christmas decor waxing goes to the entry.

This space was a blank slate for longer than I’d like to admit.

Okay, okay, you’ve twisted my arm.

I’ll fess up that it remained a blank slate for the first 16 years we lived here.

Sigh.

It was all orange-y oak stairs. A blue “accent” wall. A cheap laminate trunk for the kid’s toys. A mirror over the radiator cover. A bowl on top of the radiator cover to catch keys.

That was it. The extent of my decorating of the entry.

Sigh.

Or more like lol. 🙂

I’ve added some of those before pictures at the end of the end of this post, if you’re curious.

But once I discovered the world of home diy bloggers, I gained confidence that I could diy something much, much better for this space.

I started with the staircase. Stripping that orange hued stain from the steps and handrails and then applying a darker stain.

Then I painted the treads and spindles white.

I shared all my staircase makeover steps (get it, steps) on this post.

Up next was the most dramatic change. The faux board and batten with hooks. This made the space functional and beautiful! I shared that diy on this blog post.

Before the entry makeover — 13 years ago — I never really decorated this space for the Christmas holidays. Perhaps a wreath on the front door and some garland wrapped around the staircase railing.

But now it’s one of the my favorite spaces to add holiday cheer. And I’m especially liking the more traditional red, white and green with burgundy red velvet bows.

I think we’re going out on a good one …

if I do say so myself! 😉

As promised, here’s a few (terrible quality) shots of the entry before.

Not to pat myself on the back (as I pat myself on the back) but I personally think it’s a huge improvement!

🙂
