Back-To-School Mason Jar Pencil Holders – Easy Teacher Gift Ideas with Scrapbook Paper & Mason Jars.

Pardon my cliche, but where did the summer go?
Because yesterday I saw a group of kids walking down the street with backpacks on their backs. Right around 3 o’clock in the afternoon.
Noooooooo.
I’m not ready to give up the easy, breezy days of summer. The carefree days at the beach (okay, I didn’t exactly go to the beach this summer). More like carefree days reading at the pool. The long walks along the lake. Eating outdoors and people watching on the Riverwalk.
And I guess, technically, I don’t really have to give up those easy, breezy days. Yet. 😉
It’s not like I’m going back to school. And my kids are both done with school (for now; one may eventually pursue a masters).
So why does the sight of a backpacked child send shivers down my spine?
Perhaps because it signals an end to something. In this case an end to summer. And with that endness comes a sense of sadness. Of missed easy, breezy summer day opportunities.
But (for those glass-half-full folks) it also signals a beginning. A new season filled with new opportunities.
Opportunities that involve sweaters and long pants. 😉
And kids going back to school.

Wrap the scrapbook paper around jar to determine desired width of the band. I typically go with a 12″ length x 2 3/4″ final width.

Cut a strip of paper slightly larger than measured width. I would add an additional 1-2 inches. You can cut the paper with scissors or a paper cutter. Whichever you have available.

Fold over both edges of width of paper about 1/2″ – 1″ depending on the size cut. This gives you a clean edge (and forgives any errant cutting :).

Tape one end of paper to back of jar, centering on jar.

Wrap paper around jar to determine length.

Cut off excess length and fold over edge.

Tape in place on the back of the jar.

Finish with bakers twine …

… and a bow.

Finished width measure about 2 3/4.”

Add pencils.

Or paint brushes.

Or scissors and rulers.

An easy, breezy back-to-school craft idea that gives you time to enjoy those last easy, breezy days of summer!
