betty or veronica?

March 22, 2012 By Linda 23 Comments

Betty is nice.  The nice, girl-next-door, middle class blonde girl.  But Veronica?  Rich. Fashionable. Spoiled.  Fiery. A bit of a bad girl.

And as much as I wanted to be Veronica, truth be told, I’m a Betty …

… just like I always wanted to be the sexy movie star Ginger while all the while my true nature is much more Mary Ann …

Because, let’s face it.  When it comes to art in their home, Veronica and Ginger would spend the big bucks for real art.  Expensive art. Created by a real artist. By a real dead famous artist where they would try outbid each other at a Sotheby’s auction …

But Betty, Mary Ann, and I?  We craft our own using 50% off frames from Michael’s and random supplies we have hanging around the house.

And I’m pretty sure you would never, ever find this …

Teen room orange gray black number comic art

… hanging on Veronica’s or Ginger’s wall.

When I was trying to figure out art for my son’s room remodel (revealed here), I was inspired by this blogger …

Jamie and I both have an affinity for numbers in our home décor.  But when I saw her post this project about a  St. Patrick’s Day craft, the wheels started turning …

… and then whirring …

Plan A was to create book-paged cardboard numbers and frame them.  But while digging through my random craft and kid school supplies, I found this …

Comic Book Art suppliesDSCN6946 (550x413)

… some letter and number stickers from an old Science Fair or History Fair board and a container of holiday present tags …

… and was inspired to implement an impromptu Plan B that looked like this …

DSCN6948 (550x413) Comic Book Art more

… and quickly realized the background would look much more fun like this …

DSCN6955 (550x413)

… and after my son looked at me in horror at the thought of cutting up his Archie comic, I decided to make color copies of the pages …

The numbers are affixed to the front of the glass with this removable glue product …

I think  both Veronica and Ginger might approve of how they look in the finished room …

And this project absolutely qualifies as an “It’s a Cinch” Easy Peasy Mission: Possible candidate …

Our link party is now open (just click here) …

Okay, seriously…. as “simple” as it seems…. I NEVER would have thought to make colored copies. My son would have just stayed horrified at me. Brilliant… just B-R-I-L-L-I-A-N-T!

The thing I’ve learned as I’ve gotten older is that Veronica and Ginger would very likely pay real money for the things that Betty and Mary Ann make for next to nothing. That makes B & MA *smart* in addition to nice. 😉

I’m TOTALLY a Betty and Mary Ann girl too 🙂

Your comic book art is so cool! And good call to make colour copies of the pages 🙂

I better get started on my It’s A Cinch project!

As much as I’d like to be Veronica, I’m pretty sure I’m Betty, too. Very smart to make colored copies. In my haste, I’ve been known to tear a page out of a book which always comes to bite me in the kiester later. Love how they look! Such a great way to display a date! Thanks for sharing.

I think maybe I’m a Betronica. Or a Veronbett. But mostly I’m a Linda. (Really too – that’s one of my nicknames!)

That looks awesome, I love the idea of incorporating your son’s comics into the room. I think I was way more of a Veronica before I had kids, now as much as I try, I’m totally a Betty:)

I wanted to be Ginger as well! But here’s my real question: How in the world did you make your son’s bed so well? I have such trouble making my own son’s platform bed look good when I make it…

I’ve always wanted to be Betty and MaryAnn, I mean after all, MaryAnn made cream pies! ;^)

I will say that that your artwork is VERY cute and clever and definitely one of a kind! I love the idea of using comics for the background – perfect!

I love numbers, too! If I didn’t restrain myself, everything on my walls would be words and numbers. Love this room: the orange, the gray, the graphic pattern on the comforter….

And thanks so much for your sweet comments; made my day!

I had admired those frames “from afar”…now I know how you did it…You are right…easy peasy, even for me…and I agree that even Ginger or Veronica would approve!…
