IKEA Tarva Hack

May 12, 2014 By Linda 22 Comments

Ikea-Tarva-Hack 2

I wish I could tell you this IKEA Tarva dresser makeover was my idea …

it wasn’t.

I wish I could tell you I painted it Pure White using Annie Sloan Chalk Paint because I had a vision that a white dresser would be the perfect addition to our master bedroom makeover …

I didn’t.

I wish I could tell you I found those amazing brass knobs at the hardware store and fell in love with them immediately …

Ikea-Tarva-Hack 5 2

nope.

In fact, I would have never given them a second glance. Or a third. Or a first glance, for that matter.

I wish I could tell you I had the oh-so-clever idea to paint the legs of the dresser gold …

Ikea-Tarva-Hack 9 2 1

yeah. I ‘borrowed’ that one too.

*sigh*

This brilliant IKEA hack idea was the brainchild of this blogger.

She’s super talented. With amazing style. Grace. Taste. And when I saw her IKEA Tarva hack, it was like the clouds parted. The birds started to sing …

and I finally … finally! … knew what needed to go in this space in our master bedroom.

Sometimes you just can’t improve upon perfection.

P.S. There would never have been an IKEA Tarva copycat dresser if it wasn’t for the Kick in the Pants from the Duluth Trading Company. And while they did provide me with the funding that enabled me to purchase this dresser, all opinions about the Duluth Trading Company are my own.

P.P.S. I should probably show you the before. You know, so you can truly appreciate the after …

P.P.P.S. I’ll save the tale of assembling this dresser for another day. Let’s just say, for now, it’s still standing …

The dresser really looks great! And I’m liking what I can see of the window treatments….in fact, I’m ready to see the whole dang room! So glad you are finishing up your room after so long. I’ve got several rooms that need a kick in the pants….

Oh my – what an amazing transformation! I would never see this chest and think to do what you did. I would have just passed it by. Love the white paint, but I especially love the legs!

Looks great! I love the gold hardware with the blue walls. We just painted our master blue as well and I’m planning on doing all gold accents as well.

Hey Linda! Quick question.. I know you used Annie Sloan Chalk Paint but is that all? Did you use primer before you used the chalk paint? Or any time of wax paint for a top coat?

    Thanks!!

Debby – With Annie Sloan you don’t need to use primer. So I just brushed on the Annie Sloan. Gave it two coats. Sanded lightly after each one. And then gave it a coat of Annie Sloan wax on top. Just one coat — cuz I’m lazy like that! 🙂
