I have a problem.

A taking over my life problem …

An intervention-worthy problem …

A problem that laughs at my to do list.  A problem that kicks sand in the face of my to do list.  A problem that takes my to do list and rips it into a million little pieces …

Those weeds in the back yard? Yeah, my problem has me ignoring them. And trust me, they are hard to ignore.

The bead board wallpaper in the master bedroom that needs to be hung?  Yeah, my problem keeps whispering in my ear … reminding me that I have no idea how to hang wallpaper and why in the world would I even try to …

… yeah, my problem has penetrated deep into my psyche …

And what is this problem you ask?

Potting benches.

You read that right.  Potting benches.

Now I’ve shared my love of them here … and you would think that I’d gotten my fill of them here …

But all that did was turn my love of potting benches into an obsession.  A to-do-list-ripped-to-a-million-little-pieces obsession.  A Google image search and Pinterest pinning obsession …

… an ignore the dust bunnies and piles of paper and bills piling up and rush right on out to the thrift store obsession …

So in lieu of boiling a bunny, I decided to create a potting bench of my very own …

potting_bench_summer_mantel_geraniums_close_up

… well, not quite a working potting bench …

potting_bench_summer_mantel_herb_closeup

… but a faux potting bench using a $.99 thrift store basket …

potting_bench_summer_mantel_wicker_basket_spade_rake

… a faux potting bench to sit atop my faux mantel …

potting_bench_summer_mantel_geraniums

… or my fantel …

potting_bench_summer_mantel_staircase_view

potting_bench_summer_mantel_bird_eye_view

… that I set up on my custom radiator cover …

potting_bench_summer_mantel_straw_hat_geranium

The hat was another thrift store find … just $2.99.

potting_bench_summer_mantel_hat_geraniums_polka_dot_pot

And believe you me it’s for decorative purposes only …

potting_bench_summer_mantel_straw_hat

I’m not one to wear pre-worn thrift store hats on my head …

potting_bench_summer_mantel_gardening_hat

… just saying …

potting_bench_summer_mantel

So that’s my thrifty thrift store faux mantel faux potting bench …

… and now you’re wondering if my problem has been solved?  If my thirst for a potting bench has been sated?

What do you think …

potting_bench_faux_mantel_collage

I’ll tell you what I’m thinking:  I’m thinking more than just weeds will be pulled up from the back yard this weekend …

… you know, to make room for that new outdoor functioning potting bench.

I wonder if I can find a piece of furniture that I can convert into one at the Salvation Army?

P.S.  Have you heard about my pillow link party going this week?  It goes live on Monday, June 25 at 6 AM CST …

You make me feel better about my design ADD, I can tell you that!

I am in love with your fun potting bench! The hat adds such a nice touch of whimsy! (You crack me up with the “not one to wear a pre-worn hat” comment! My mother would say that sounds like something I would declare!)

Such a creative idea, as usual!

Ms. L, that is cute. However I got all excited thinking maybe you were hanging the beadboard wallpaper. Remember I said you go first? Mine is sitting here, taunting me.

I love your indoor potting bench with the herb pots adorned with those chalkboard stars. A great temporary fix until you get your outdoor one. We finally got one built in our garden, but now I need to get it organized. I could take some real cues from you.

So fun, Linda! That fantel sure is versatile. 🙂 I love the decorative hat and thrifted basket mixed in with your awesomely updated pots. Sure does feel like summer in that pic. 🙂

If anyone could create a potting bench indoors, it’s you!….I love it…you are the clever, creative one…and I am so glad you did not resort to “boiling the bunny” and that bunny is safe, hiding out in the weeds!

intervention schmintervention! you don’t need one because it looks awesome. if all the plants were dying and the pots were cracked and you were hoarding them in piles, then we would need to talk.

I know it’s about the bench…but I’m loving that radiator cover. Makes me wish I had one just so I could get obsessed with radiator covers. And continue procrastinating on my other to-do projects!

So fantastic, Linda!!! I love your fantel…I need one, too. And I’m crazy for potting benches, too! In fact, I printed out Ana White’s instructions for one, bought all the wood & materials, and now everything is just waiting in the garage for me to work on it…;) Ooooh! I have a great idea! Why don’t you come on out here and build it for me??? mmmkay?

HA! I saw that mention of beadboard wallpaper….I agree, you go first and we’ll watch! But, the bench looks great! I am a slob, I could never have a potting bench in the house..it would be a bad thing. I wanted my husband to put radiators in this house….he refused…I guess I could make a radiator cover for a fake radiator…people do it all the time with fireplace mantels….Hmmmm…..I really love the radiator cover…

Adorable! and your photographs are so awesome as well. Great job! Too bad I don’t live closer – wallpapering is a snap when you know how, it would take me 10 minutes to teach you & you’d be good!!

    Enjoy your potting bench!

So cute – glad it’s faux or your dog would be digging up all the dirt that went flying as you potted your geraniums while wearing your pre-worn hat!

It’s a faux mantle potting bench! Except that you can’t really do gardening work inside, right? Or maybe you can if you are mature enough to realize you’ll have to clean it up:)

Random question- are you happy with BlogHer? I’m thinking about it, since it’s way easier than the lijit, rivit, thing, just wondering:)

I thought that faux mantel faux potting bench was pretty neat, looks great. We have to make do when we have to make do, right? Looks nice. How do your herbs grow inside? I’ve always wanted herbs, (not for cooking as I don’t really cook that much anymore), but they sure look pretty. Will look forward to seeing your outdoor yard potting bench. Hope it’s soon.
