Homemade Pressed Flower Soap – Holiday Soap DIY – Homemade Gift Ideas.

Can we talk bathrooms?
I know, I know. Not a very Christmas-y topic.
But it’s a topic that’s been top-of-mind (for me) for months now.

I have yet to share pictures of the bathrooms in our new Chicago condo. You’ll just have to take my word that they’re not good.
At all.
The master is white and black and red. With a black floor. Oh, and mirrors everywhere.
I. MEAN. EVERYWHERE.

Remember that makeover show with Stacy and Clinton and the 360 mirror? I think it was called What Not To Wear?
Yeah, I get that 360 experience each and every day.
Twenty year old me might have been sure. Okay. I’ll just take another twirl. Sixty year old me walks through the bathroom with my eyes closed tight. 😉

The second bathroom is brown. Floor to ceiling brown. With brown accents. Oh and the medicine cabinet mirror came crashing down in the middle of the night a few months ago.
I joke that it’s self-demolishing. Eager for its much-needed makeover.

The good news is the official demo of the master bath is scheduled to start in January. We have plans. Materials. Approvals. Building permits.
We’re ready to go!
Well, with the exception of the sconces. Don’t get me started, but I’m still shopping around for the perfect shade of brushed gold.
Tik Tok.

The bad news is that for this year’s holiday season my bathrooms are a disaster. And I’m hosting.
Ah well.
So in my pathetic attempt to pretty up those not-so-pretty bathrooms for the holidays, I decided to make some pretty homemade pressed flower soap.

I’m not going to lie. I was little apprehensive about this craft. Worried that the pressed flowers would just wilt. Or that the layering of the flowers and stems would look … weird.
But when the soap dried and I turned them out I was stunned.
In a good way. 🙂

Step 1: Place pressed flowers and stems face down in the forms. This is because the bottom of the soap will be the top when you turn them out.
Here are a few pressed flower placement tips from me:
1 – Don’t stress too much about placement and layering (ie. what flower will be on top of another flower). I worried too much about this step. Needlessly.
2 – More dried flowers is better (in my opinion) because you end up with more vibrant soap. Be sure to mix up and layer larger and smaller ones.

Step 2: Cut up the clear soap melt & pour soap base into equal sized cubes. Place in a microwave safe dish (I used a large glass measuring cup) and microwave at 30 second intervals until completely melted. Then carefully pour over the flowers filling the forms about 1/2 way up.

(I didn’t do this) but if you spray with rubbing alcohol after pouring the soap melts it will help with the bubbles.
Clearly you can see all my bubbles. 😉
Let dry for 10-15 minutes before proceeding to the next step.

Steps 3: Cut the goat’s milk block into small, equal sized cubes and place in microwave safe dish. Microwave at 30 second intervals until completely melted. Pour into forms on top of the clear soap. Fill to top of form.
Step 4: Let dry for a few hours before removing soap from forms. I think I waited like 2-3 hours.

Now, my little homemade pressed flower soaps might not be cute enough to overcome the red, white and black master bath. Or the brown-color-drenched-self-demolishing guest bath.
But they look absolutely fabulous in their 360 mirror moment! 🙂
