Do you know that feeling of excitement when you come across a project you just have to recreate?
Like right now. Like immediately.
And then you pin it. But that pin is unnecessary. It’s perfunctory. Not because it’s superficial. Or you’re indifferent. Quite the opposite. You see, the pin is strictly to share with others because this particular inspiration project will be recreated on the very same day it was pinned …
And at the craft store everything comes together like clock work. Like it’s meant to be. Like this project has just been waiting patiently for you stumble across it on Pinterest or at a link party …
And then to top it all off, you find the perfect way to put your own stamp of creativity on it …
When you get home and you get started right away …
And then you’re patting yourself on the back. And you’re high fiving yourself. There may even be a cringe-worthy fist bump or two because in your own mind you are just so very clever …
But then …
After all that back patting and high fiving and cringe-worthy fist bumping you realize things have gone terribly, terribly, and horribly wrong.
And your back patting and high fiving and cringe-worthy fist bumping self remembers that the tutorial used paper … not card stock … like I did.
And you remember that the tutorial said to use a very thin layer of Mod Podge and not to glop it on … like I did.
So my humbled non-back-patting-high-fiving-cringe-worthy-fist-bumping-self went back to the drawing board and came up with these …
And why did it work this time?
Perhaps because my back-patting-high-fiving-cringe-worthy-fist-bumping self went back and spent time reading through the tutorial carefully …
And perhaps because instead of using card stock paper I made color copies of my coveted card stock images on light weight paper stock …
… and then I kept the Mod Podge application oh so very thin. On the back of the paper and then on top …
To finish it all off, they got a few coats of shellac …
And to finish me off? I’m slurping, sipping, swigging, and swilling …
Let the back patting and high five-ing and cringe-worthy fist bumping commence …. again.

You are funny! They look terrific. I just Mod Podged some drawer fronts and have a couple of huge lumps because I’m too impatient. And then I have the gall to swear at the drawers for not turning out right! Your project on the other hand looks really cute 🙂

Love them…I am always impatient…looking at projects…full steam ahead and then it doesn’t quite turn out right…well maybe it’s because I am impatient and skipped a step or two….Now, would that work with fabric?…say outdoor fabric instead of card stock?…Great coasters, the second time around!!
I tend to think Mod Podge is better in theory than in practice. Maybe it’s just the way I wield the brush? But I love your coasters–very cute!

He he – I can soooo relate – just a week ago I posted about the ‘jellyfish in the bottle’ project I saw and was in such a hurry to go make, I too didn’t read the instructions, I just ran off and tried to make it – disaster! But unlike you, I didn’t stop – I had to try a second time, and fail again, before I was humble enough to go read the original blog post (so sorry to the original authoress) – but that stage I’d lost the will to craft… so good on you for getting it in the end! I love your story! Sorry about the mishap, though, but it’s great that you shared it – not every project works out according to plan, and I think it’s just as important to share the boo-boos to show people what NOT to do. Plus you learn the lesson too, and that’s not a bad thing 🙂 It just means you need to delay the high fivin’ and back slappin’ a bit 😉
