shut the front door

March 27, 2012 By Linda 27 Comments

I’ve never decorated the front of the house for Spring.  Not sure why.  Perhaps because my porch looked like this for longer than I’d like to admit.  I mean, really, why would I draw attention to that disaster …

Spring front porch long shot

Or maybe because Spring in Chicago rarely happens.  A real Spring.  A proper Spring. It’s a once-in-a-decade phenomenon.  We typically go from Winter to Summer with a month or two in-between filled with bone-chilling rain …

But this Spring I’m going all out.  In celebration of the once-in-a-decade phenomenon …

I had big plans to make my own super crafty and creative wreath (think Spring wreath made out of real springs) but abandoned those plans when I saw this egg wreath at JoAnn’s for 50% off …

The porch step numbers (which you can read about here) …

… and painted on porch rug (which you can read more about here)…

… made it through the winter okay.  The paint is a bit chippy in spots and will need some touch-ups …

Spring front porch daisies

… but the numbered steps are intact.

The one “easy peasy” cinchy project I did do to get the Spring porch ready …

… was to slap a coat of primer and leftover paint from the porch rug onto some old planters …

So now my Spring porch can join the ranks of my fall/Halloween and winter/Christmas porch designs …

And am I concerned that those daisies may get snowed on?

Spring porch daisies

You betcha!  It’s a chilly 40 degrees out today …

My “sponsor” is concerned too.  He still has the bag of salt hanging around the front porch.

Looks like I’ll need to wait a bit longer before I can comfortably relax here with my homemade monogrammed drop cloth pillow …

That egg wreath is too cute. I love Joann’s and wish there was one closer so I can hit it up more. I have a GC just waiting to be burned.

Your front porch is gorgeous. Loving it!! You did such an amazing job fixin’ and sprucin’ everything. It’s downright heavenly. I live in New England ans spring visited last week. We had sunshine and 70’s and 80’s. This week winter is back with 30’s.

My son lives outside Chicago and he says the same thing as you. He’s not turning on his air conditioning just yet or storing away the snow blower or putting up the screens just yet. In fact, they left for their annual “get out of Chicago cold weather” trip this morning to sunny warm Florida. Looking forward to joining the Cinch party here in just a few minutes.

Looks like everything is holding up pretty well, especially considering it had to go through a Chicago winter! We are solidly in the rainy spring, here in Northern California, so I am waiting for “real” spring to come. The pots are so cute and “cinchy”.

I love it! The whole thing feels warm and welcoming. If I happened across your home on a walk… I’d have a hard time not helping myself to that rocker.

Love the flower pots. And the numbered steps have me thinking what fun they would be to skip up as a little girl with very few cares. Definite spring action!

Oh! I love it! I don’t know what’s my favorite. The painted rug and the planters with the flowers look so pretty! I love porches. I live in the south and everyone down here should have one but I don’t 🙁 It was 85 here today! I hope it warms up for you so you spend time on your lovely
    porch.
