Decoupage Mason Jar with Paper Napkins

June 12, 2025 By Linda 7 Comments

Decoupage Mason Jar with Paper Napkins – How To Decoupage – Mason Jar Craft Ideas

“Florals for Spring. How original.”

— said with an eye-roll by fictional character Miranda Priestly in the The Devil Wears Prada movie.

I don’t know if that line from The Devil Wears Prada movie is in the The Devil Wears Prada book.

My first instinct is no.

Because (this may be controversial opinion) when it comes to The Devil Wears Prada, the movie is 1000% better than the book.

And I don’t say that lightly. I honestly always think the book is better than the movie adaptation.

With this one exception.

Have you read the book? Because I did and reading it was quite the … experience?

Challenge?

Slog?

Yes, definitely a slog.

I don’t know why I kept turning the pages. Perhaps because I was at a destination wedding in Mexico and there’s nothing I like more than to sitting in a lounge chair by the pool and reading a book.

And the book I brought to that destination wedding was The Devil Wears Prada.

Honestly, it was 384 pages of the author whining over and over again about work.

And it was grating.

As someone who worked in New York in her 20’s as an assistant to a very, very notoriously demanding boss, I just kept thinking what?

And get over it.

And just do your job.

I mean, no one at the office talked to me for my first month on the job because my aforementioned very-very-notoriously-demanding boss was running through assistants faster than Murphy Brown. They just figured I’d be gone before the month was out.

But I perservered. And I’m pretty sure I did some whining to friends out of earshot of the aforementioned very-very-notoriously-demanding boss.

But I never put it on paper. Or had it published.

Perhaps a missed opportunity on my part?

But then again, my very-very-notoriously-demanding boss wasn’t Anna Wintour. So the tell-all gossip wasn’t quite as juicy. 😉

Now unlike the fictional Miranda Priestly, I don’t have any qualms — or snarky retorts — about florals for Spring. Or Summer.

Because duh. Florals and Spring (and Summer) are a perfect match.

Especially when the florals come in the form of pretty paper napkins that are decoupaged onto a painted mason jar …

🙂

How To Make Decoupage Mason Jar with Paper Napkins

Materials*

Wide Mouth Quart Mason Jars

White Chalked Paint

Paper Napkins (these are the ones I used)

80 Grit Sandpaper

Mod Podge

Matte Spray Sealant

Paint Brush

Foam Brush

Scissors

Start with two coats of white paint. I used chalked paint because it sticks to the jars better and dries quickly. I typically let my jar dry overnight before applying the second coat.

Once completely dry (I typically give it an overnight to dry, but chalk paint dries quickly so you could do this same day) use 80 grit sandpaper to distress the jar along the raised letters and threaded top areas.

Cut out flowers from the paper napkins.

These napkins have two layers so recommend separating the flower cut out from the white backing layer.

Use a foam brush to add a generous layer of Mod Podge onto the jar.

Then start applying the flowers to the jar.

Add a layer of Mod Podge on top of the flowers after you attach them to the jar.

Once all the flowers are on the jar, give the whole thing a generous coating of Mod Podge.

I added a third coat of Mod Podge after it dried.

Let the jar dry overnight and then give it a coat of matte spray sealant. (This is my go-to favorite matte sealant spray)

And that’s it. Now you have florals for spring!

And summer. 🙂

Some great ideas here, but it is a slog trying to get through the gauntlet of ads. If you have control of that, perhaps put them on the side would be nice instead of on top of your tutorials. Sandi

I’m so, so sorry about that! I don’t control the ad spaces but wish the company that does would stop with those heavey top ads! I agree! 🙂
