the power of paint x2

February 16, 2012 By Linda 6 Comments

“I’ve been doing a lot of abstract painting lately, extremely abstract. No brush, no paint, no canvas. I just think about it.”  ~ Stephen Wright

It’s all about the paint today.  Not painting, though.  Like Stephen Wright, I’ve been doing a lot of abstract painting around here …

… just thinking about painting my son’s room three different colors.  Make that four, if you count the moulding and trim. No, five if you count the primer …

Instead today is about the meeting of the paints, if you will.  it all started with paint meets Power of Paint.

You see, today I’m featured at Power of Paint (here).  This recently launched blog is an extension of Domestically-Speaking … you know, the creative blog created by Maryann that hosts a weekly Wednesday “Power of Paint” link party …

“I always thought that one of the reasons why a painter likes especially to have other painters look at his or her work is the shared experience of having pushed paint around.” ~ Chuck Close

I think Mr. Chuck Close succinctly sums up the success behind Domestically-Speaking’s “Power of Paint” link party  …  and the allure of Maryann’s new Power of Paint blog.

Now if you’re a blogger and you’re not familiar with Domestically-Speaking or Maryann’s Power of Paint party, then get out of here and go here …

…  the party is still open, so go and link up your paint project …

But be sure to come back so I can show off some of Maryann’s amazing projects, like her master bedroom oasis.  This is the color scheme I hope to emulate in my very own master remodel …

image
And in that very same oasis, she took a sad … oh, let’s face it, ugly … laminate table and showed us how she painted it …

image
… and then on that same little table she exercised her nail head obsession and added this amazing trim for a mere $1.00 …

image
The next post I actually printed out and put a hard copy in my inspiration folder back in November …

… I’ve been dreaming of executing a similar bead board wallpaper treatment in my very own family room …

image
Is anyone else sensing a copycat theme here?  Perhaps I should just buy Maryann’s house and be done with it ….

And how adorable is her little girl’s room?  Oh how I wish my daughter hadn’t turned her back on pink.  A love affair that began when she was little more than two lost it’s luster somewhere around the third grade. Sigh.

image
But Maryann isn’t just about the paint.  She’s got it bad for burlap.  Not intervention worthy bad …

… but close  …

… and she doesn’t just make these for her own pleasure.  You can purchase these beauties too.  Just click here.

And she just added this one earlier today …

How apropos, no?

Now it all started with paint needs to meet some more paint friends.  Maybe a paint brush blog …

… and a drop cloth blog (I’m a sloppy painter) …

… and a painter’s tape blog (I don’t have a steady hand) …

“At some point in life the world’s beauty becomes enough. You don’t need to photograph, paint or even remember it. It is enough.” ~ Toni Morrison

Now if I follow what Miss Toni Morrison said …

… and what if this point in life is that point in life Miss Morrison is referring to …?

… then that would mean I should continue to move forward with my ‘abstract’ painting projects.  Hmm …

“All that is necessary to paint well is to be sincere.”  ~ Maurice Denis

I think Mr. Maurice Denis’ advice holds true for blogging too.  Just saying …

orange black and white…sounds great. I actually painted my daughters room orange a while back (in out St Louis townhouse) I was just going to do a single wall in orange but she wanted all the walls done…the room has a sort of day-glo feel to it now and it always looks like she has left the light on in there…she loves it though!

I have been doing some abstract water color painting and just got the art pieces up in my dining room.

Off now to look at the power of paint..anything not to get down to some proper work!

I thought you were a Jersey girl – them thar is Flyers colors!! But I do love a bold color scheme!

And I adore that little thumbtack table makeover that Maryann made – I’ll never look at a packet of thumbtacks the same way again.
