“Land of the free because of the brave.”

Can I take a moment to thank all those military families out there – past, present, future – for your service and sacrifices for this country?  You truly are brave.  And have kept this land free …

Free so that we can spend our extended Memorial Day Weekend hosting backyard barbecues in peace.  Surrounded by friends and family and neighbors who will raise a toast to your bravery and give thanks …

And speaking of backyard barbecues, I know many of you are busy this morning prepping for that cook out. Gathering the condiments.  Boiling the ribs.  Making the hamburger patties.  Shucking the corn.  Cutting up the watermelon …

etc. etc. etc. …

So I’ll keep this brief.  And super duper easy.

As in showing you how to make a super-duper-easy-patriotic-red-white-and-blue-centerpiece.  A super-duper-easy-patriotic-red-white-and-blue-centerpiece guaranteed to wow your barbecue guests …

and a super-duper-easy-patriotic-red-white-and-blue-centerpiece that uses supplies you can find at the grocery store.

So when you realize you forgot the paper plates …

or don’t have enough napkins …

or the relish has gone bad since you only use it once a year on Memorial Day …

or you only have Grey Poupon mustard and your husband insists that you must have have neon yellow mustard to offer guests too because Grey Poupon on hot dogs is just not right …

Just add a few more items to your shopping list:

1. blue food dye

2. red and white supermarket flowers

3. mason jar (optional)

4. mini flag

Now I used a quart sized mason jar.  Only because I had one on hand.  But you can use any jar.  Just open up the fridge.  Look waaaaaaaaaaay in the back.  And pull out that mayonnaise/apple sauce/Prego sauce that has been forgotten about and is currently growing fuzzy green stuff.  Dump the science experiment.  Wash out the jar.  And may I recommend you use lots of hot, soapy water. Then fill the jar with water and squirt in some blue food dye …

Stir up the water.  Add flowers and a flag.  And you’re done …

Super. Duper. Easy.

Happy Memorial Day Weekend!  And to all those military families out there, I raise my glass and toast your bravery …
