Teen Girl Room Inspiration in White and Gray.

Have you met my daughter yet? I bring her up from time-to-time. Not often. She prefers to keep her business off the blog.

In fact, neither of my kids are angling for fame on It All Started With Paint. They’d so much prefer to be an internet sensation on Reddit. Or Instagram. To them my blog is so, like, not cool.

Though, if I was pulling in a million pageviews a month I’m pretty sure they’d be singing a different tune …

Winking smile

But back to my daughter. She’s 13 years old. And after a rough start at the beginning of the school year, she’s back on track. Finding herself, if you will. Trying things out. And on. Not just for size. But to see how they fit her emerging personality.

So when I finally succumbed to her many requests for a room redesign, you can be sure she came to the table with plenty of ideas. And opinions. Strong ones. Most of which keep circling back to white …

which we all know is a challenge for this color loving girl!

Though, I did insist that we add a bit of color to the walls. Just a bit. With a light shade of gray …

So we visited our neighborhood Ace Hardware to check out options at their new in-store Paint Studio. It’s pretty cool, actually. There are mood-inspired palettes displayed in unique draws with bright lighting. It reminded me of a high-end cosmetic counter. And of course, there were plenty of paint chips and brochures and color match ideas to look through for inspiration …

not to mention the amazing Paint Studio staffers who were one-upping each other about their perfect paint mixing abilities!

In the end, we narrowed it down to three possible shades of gray from the #1 ranked Clark+Kensington line …

We also picked up some mixable color samples – just $4.99 for a pint – and will try them out on the walls this weekend.

And speaking of this weekend, Ace Hardware is offering an amazing Buy One Get One paint deal …

I better hurry up and decide on a color!

🙂

So, what do you think of our color choices? Do you have any recommendations, suggestions, or – like my daughter – strong opinions?

My 13 yo daughter is going through the same desire to change it all up, and we’ve been waiting for this paint sale. No more pink with the elaborate mural that took me forever to paint! She wants to change to a beach theme, so we’re going with Valspar’s “Sea Inspired”, a beautiful light blue with a bit of green to it. All of her furniture is in dark wood tones and then she wants her bed and windows in white. We’ve also been having fun shopping for her accent pieces, like rustic lanterns, netting and lots of white starfish. It is fun to have her involved, but I actually had to do the reverse to you…I had to get her to agree to lighten her choice of wall cover, as she originally wanted a very dark tone. Should be fun!

I love the name “sea inspired!” I would have loved to go with a beachy theme — it would certainly fit with my other nautical influenced room redos! But mine wants soft and romantic. I can only wonder how romantic and soft it will look with her clothes strewn about on the floor! Ha! 🙂 Linda

My daughter (not her real name) always wanted a white room, too. For some reason, she loves the absence of color. In blogland, she’d be right in style!
