my little black door

February 20, 2012 By Linda 17 Comments

Just like every woman needs a little black dress in her wardrobe …

… every house should have at least one little black door.

Little Black Door 2

When the idea first hit me, I had grand plans to paint every door in the house black …

… starting with our bedroom doors in the second floor hallway.

To say my family freaked out when I proclaimed “all doors in this here casa will forevermore be painted black” would be an understatement.

They’ve never, ever questioned my design decisions in the past …

… let alone stood firm — and unified — with an unequivocal “no way.”

Sure, they’ve looked perplexed at times as I’m hanging off of wobbly ladders …

… or wielding giant extension poles as I paint vaulted ceilings …

… or pulling up to the house with 8 foot MDF boards sticking out the back window of my SUV.

I’ve seen those question marks over their heads as they walk past the dining-room-table-turned-work-space.

But up until the “I’m going to paint our bedroom doors black” statement was uttered, their opinions have remained mute …

… those questions marks invisible.

This time, though, a mutiny was a brewing …

… so I caved.

And while I let them think I caved because they opposed …

… truth be told, I realized painting the hallway doors would make that hallway look a bit cave-like.

So I had to satisfy my need for a black door by painting just one …

And yes.  She is a she.  A she who is beautifully accessorized with this …

I LOVE it! I think all black doors might be overkill. The black door here makes sense–it does make it a cove-like space. All black doors? Might make it like a funeral home. Or that mansion where Mr. Rochester locks up his crazy wife. Or Bride of Frankenstein, and then you’d have to go out and get the hair with the lightning bolt streak. Just sayin’.

Love it! Cute post. I feel the same way about the punctuation over the heads but sometimes my husbands is more like “?!?!?”. He doesn’t even ask anymore lol.

Ugh, don’t you hate it when everyone has to interject their opinions!

But I guess for harmony sake, we have to listen on occasion!

She is a beauty (I see you’re now referring to inanimate objects as she)!!

Hi Linda! I am your newest linky follower! Thank you so much for stopping by my blog, and leaving such a sweet comment!
Your entry, and black doors look amazing! Love the accessories too! – I wanted to paint my doors as well, and the hubs was freaked! As of now, I have 2 black doors in my master bath, and 1 brown one in my kitchen/family room area. He is coming around…

That black door gets me every time I see it. Your family should trust you, and you just keep on trusting yourself!

Nice! And nicely accessorized, too! Love the fab fabric on the bench. 🙂

I think one black door is probably enough… What did you do for the others? Maybe a different color for every door…
